I Felted Some Balls
Har har har.
Seriously, though… I did make some dryer balls today. I hate dryer sheets… I don’t like the way they smell, the way they feel, it’s another thing I have to buy and store in my tiny closet. But I also hate static cling. What to do?!
A friend of mine has those plastic dryer balls. I don’t know why I didn’t just order them. I think it has something to do with my frugal kick, and also, I think they are ugly.
Then, I happened upon a page on GoodMama’s blog about making dryer balls. It immediately appealed to my sense of craftiness and pleasing-to-the-eyeness.
I finally got myself to Michaels today and picked up the yarn and made the balls before doing the laundry, so I could felt them. Between you and me, I have no idea what it means to felt. All I know is that I put yarn in the washing machine, then the dryer and then things happened to the yarn that made it un-ravelable (not a word, I know.)
So, here are the results of my first attempt at felting some balls.
The two bigger ones were not bad, the little one, so sad! Anyway, these were pretty easy to make and relatively inexpensive. Once I get my technique down and figure out a gimmick or unique design, I might start making them to sell. Some people will get them as gifts for the holidays… but prettier ones.
